STEM for Aviation

March 23, 2020

The Padpilot STEM for Aviation (STEM-A) book is now even better for ‘pre-coursers’ wanting to get ready for pilot training programmes while at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This digital, interactive book is part of the Pilot Foundation Course and helps aspiring pilots prepare for their professional training before enrolling with an approved training organisation (ATO).

While you don’t need a science degree, or even science A levels for pilot training, you do need to have a basic foundation of knowledge in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM). Perhaps you’re not sure if your maths and physics knowledge is good enough for pilot training? Or maybe it has been a while since you studied any science or technical subjects? If you want to make sure you’re ready for the theoretical knowledge (‘ground school’) phase of pilot training, this book will help.

Having a solid grounding in STEM subjects is important. And to help you focus on your future career while you’re gaining that pre-course knowledge, we’ve made all the STEM learning in this book relevant to aviation. What you’ll learn will underpin any future aviation theory courses, and will help trainee pilots understand the more complex areas of study found in the ATPL theory syllabus.

During these challenging times of self-isolation, more people are now distance learning.

When trainee pilots enrol with a pilot training academy (ATO), they need to take a pre-course maths and physics test. This is a requirement of all ATOs. Now, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and to help future aviators prepare for flight training courses while at home, we have added 30 electronic quizzes to the book. These quizzes are embedded and the results cannot seen by anyone else. So, more than ever before, you can test yourself thoroughly, and be sure your knowledge is secure before enrolling on a modular, integrated or MPL pilot training course.

During these challenging times of self-isolation, more people are now distance learning. So, last week we released The Padpilot Guide To Distance Learning to help future pilots study on their own.

Our free guide contains study tips and explanations of how to use the interactive features within Padpilot theory books to enhance their learning and memory retention. It also provides information for those wanting to use their time at home to prepare for professional pilot training courses before they begin a formal training programme. The first block of studying that our Distance Learning Guide recommends is this STEM-A book.

If you want to prepare for a career as an airline pilot, we highly recommend downloading The Padpilot Guide To Distance Learning and then beginning your pre-course learning by getting your STEM knowledge up to speed with STEM for Aviation. By the time you’re ready to start your professional training, you will be top of the class!

We’re very pleased with our move to Padpilot – both for the PPL course, and also very much for our new CB-IR course, where the Padpilot team did an amazing job getting the course up and running in a very short time. We’ve been dealt with very professionally - we’ve had a great beginning and we’re very happy to be onboard.

Love your books. They're improving big knowledge gaps I had, especially for Meteorology. And super nice job the way you designed the PoF book as well - it helps so much with understanding everything.

The combination of text, illustrations and videos helps me understand ATPL concepts far more easily. (e.g. Gyroscopes)

Just wanted to reach out and say thank you for your books and resources. I’m currently an ATPL student and my flight school uses your books. It’s clear how much effort the team has put into producing these books - the diagrams, 3d models and mini videos are all amazing and really do help us get a good understanding of the sometimes complex systems. It’s amazing how this content has been incorporated into the books, as well as the added features such as the quizzes at the end of each chapter. I also had the pleasure of meeting two members of the team at the Berlin show. They were incredibly kind and open-minded when I gave feedback on potential developments as to how the industry can improve the way the course is taught. Keep up the good work.
